Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Q: "What level of physical fitness does Brazilian Jiu Jitsu require?"

Any. We have guys and gals who are in incredible shape - and others who aren't. Everyone has a great experience, and gets a killer workout, too.

Q: "Will a medical condition / past injury interfere with participating in BJJ?"

Probably not. But we advise speaking with your doctor first. He / she will know better than anyone - and may be able to tell us what exercises you can & can't do.

Q: "Is there a high risk for injury?"

Definitely not! After years of practice and expertise with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, we've identified the key factors that lead to injury - and designed our program to counter each of these factors. The result: injuries do happen (as they do with any intense sport), but they're extremely rare.

Q: "Will I be the only woman in class?"

Not at all. While the classes are mostly filled with men, there are women who participate and get a lot out of our BJJ classes, too. Everyone's focus is on learning BJJ, supporting one another, and having a great time. Gender isn't an issue.

Q: "What are the instructors like? Fun? Serious? Etc.?"

In a nutshell: they're experts, extremely supportive, a lot of fun, and highly focused. They're there when you need an extra push to do your best, and there when you need a good laugh. These classes are really a great time.

Q: "Can I still participate if I don't want to be in tournaments or participate in MMA matches?"

Absolutely. For some, BJJ is a fun, kick-ass hobby. For others, it's a way of life. And for others - it's their career. Whatever your goals are, you're more than welcome as long as you're ready to have a great time, do some hard work, and learn the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Q: "Can these classes help me get ready for my upcoming matches?"

Absolutely. We'll work with you to get your body, mind & technique ready for anything. Your fitness will skyrocket. Your technique will be honed & sharp. And your mind will be positive, focused & ready.

Kids Martial Arts

Q: “Will Martial Arts, Karate, Tae Kwon Do teach my child to be hostile and aggressive?”

Absolutely not. Children learn a lot about what it means to be respectful and polite here. As a result, kids who weren't violent in the first place become even more respectful and kind. Kids with behavior problems often become very respectful and calm.

Q: “Can my child get injured with Martial Arts, Karate, Tae Kwon Do?”

As a parent, I'm sure you've seen that kids can get injured doing just about anything. Martial Arts is no different, however we take safety very seriously here. Yes, injuries do sometimes happen. But we do everything in our power to avoid them. We do special exercises and stretches to make your child's body limber and flexible.

Q: “Can my child still participate in martial arts, karate, tae kwon do if he/she is not athletic?”

Yes! In fact, martial arts is kind of a beacon of light for kids who just don't fit into team sports. Kids who never could throw a ball well or run fast find that martial arts is accessible to them. It's something they excel at, and as a result, their confidence soars.

Q: “Are these Martial Arts, Karate, Tae Kwon Do classes fun?”

Yes! After all, these are children we're dealing with here. And kids love their fun. We do a variety of games and activities that have kids howling with laughter, and constantly smiling. We work hard here - but we play just as hard.

Q: “Is Martial Arts, Karate, Tae Kwon Do a skill / talent that will give my child pride and confidence?”

Yes! A lot of kids perform their martial arts moves in talent shows and other things. Their friends are always blown away. The positive feedback children receive helps build their self-esteem and confidence. Kids feel good knowing they can do something that's "cool and special."

Q: “What's a good age for a child to start Martial Arts, Karate, Tae Kwon Do?”

Honestly, practically every age is a good age to start! We have children as young as 6 years old, as well as teenagers. We also have specific programs for adults. So no matter where you or your child is on the age spectrum - we've got you covered.

Q: “Do boys AND girls take Martial Arts, Karate, Tae Kwon Do?”

Yes! We have a good mix of both girls and boys in our kids martial arts classes! Some people think that the boys are much “stronger and tougher,” but in reality this is not true. In fact, often girls are the stronger ones!

Kickboxing

Q: "What type of classes do you offer? (Group or private?)"

Both! Most members opt for group classes, but feel free to ask any of our instructors for more info on private sessions.

Q: “How many people will be in my class?”

You can probably expect about 15-30 people in your class. It's a really great group full of positive people excited about losing weight. You'll fit right in.

Q: “Will there be other beginners in my class?”

Yep! Our members come in all experience levels, shapes, ages & sizes. If you're a beginner, you'll fit right in.

Q: “Can you help me with nutrition, too?”

Absolutely. Whether it's in the mini nutrition seminars we give during classes from time to time... or private consultations... we've got you covered.

Q: “Is your class a ‘Cardio Kickboxing' class?”

No! These classes are very, very different from Cardio Kickboxing. It's hard to describe how much different they are, but once you come in you'll see for yourself ;-)
